Project Management
Smardt - data-centre cooling
Customer-facing project manager coordinating data-centre chiller projects end to end — equipment delivery, commissioning, and handoff — for Smardt, the global leader in oil-free chillers.
About Smardt
Smardt is the leading manufacturer of oil-free centrifugal chillers, with operations worldwide. We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Data Centre team.
The Role
Reporting to the Global Ops Lead, the Project Manager is the customer-facing lead on behalf of Smardt across a number of strategic data-centre accounts. You will coordinate activities with internal stakeholders (Sales, Service, Field Service, QA/QC, Engineering) and external stakeholders (DC ownership teams, CX agents, EOR, GC, MEP subcontractors, equipment vendors) — managing all site-related activities from equipment arrival through final handoff to the customer, including transition to post-warranty and preventive-maintenance services.
Responsibilities
Project Management Leadership: Manage all phases of data-centre projects, from planning through final warranty and maintenance, ensuring seamless coordination and handoffs and adherence to timelines and budgets.
Own and manage the project execution plan, including the project schedule, and ensure subcontractors understand project expectations.
Planning & Coordination: Develop detailed project plans, staffing needs, and schedules, working closely with Account Management and Service teams to allocate resources effectively.
Scope Development & Reporting: Prepare comprehensive proposals detailing scope and milestones; deliver regular progress reports to management and clients.
Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and internal teams, resolving issues promptly.
Analyze financial reporting and project schedules to proactively address potential problems.
Continuous Improvement & QA: Implement risk analysis and mitigation strategies, review project status, and develop lessons-learned and QA/QC lists with Engineering/Production/QA.
Day to Day
Project milestone planning, risk assessment, and corrective actions.
Coordinate equipment delivery to customer sites.
Participate in customer-witnessed / factory-witness testing and schedule start-up activities.
Attend internal data-centre and other weekly meetings; participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning meetings.
Oversee L2–L5 activities including customer equipment acceptance, start-up, commissioning, and final IST testing.
Maintain site issue and deficiency lists in Smardt and client tracking software.
Review start-up and commissioning reports; prepare handovers and final project close-out documents.
Coordinate RCA initiatives and lead product updates/upgrades internally and at customer sites.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Mechanical Engineering, Construction) — or a technical associate's degree with 5 years of field/project experience, or 8 years of equivalent HVAC-industry experience.
5+ years of related experience combining commercial HVAC and/or data centres / mission-critical units.
Preferred
Prior experience with data-centre solutions and knowledge of HVAC designs, applications, and energy-saving solutions.
Project Management certification (PMP, PMI, Six Sigma, etc.).
Commissioning experience.
What We Look For
Team worker and forward planner; strong communicator and negotiator.
Results-driven, with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
